A few months ago I decided to come up with something new to give my child's teacher for teacher appreciation. I searched and searched online for something different and unique.
I had gathered many gift cards from parents and wanted a unique way to present them. So I came across something called an exploding box. Basically it is a box made out of paper and decorated.
As I was on a time crunch I managed to make the box and I didn't really take down the measurements. Here I will show my steps through pictures and the next time I make one I will be sure to include the specifics.
I started with 3 12x12 sheets of paper. The papers were then marked to cut at varying sizes so they woudl fit within each other.
After being marked each sheet was cut and with the largest one at the bottom, they were then glued together at the middle.
Once being glued they were folded to make the sides of what will soon be our box.
Once the glue is dry I decorated each flap, with gift cars and stamps etc. This is where it gets really fun because you can use pictures for a family member, or to commemorate a trip etc. Be creative!!
I then started to work on the lid. Again, I did not measure ( shame on me) and cut the paper a little larger so that the sides could fold down. I then used a ribbon glued all the way around to help hold the shape of the lid.
The reason this is called an exploding box is because once the lid is taken off, the box pops open, or explodes. It's a nice surprise and very fun. I look forward to making more. By the way, this only took me an hour tops!

Starting fresh
I originally started this blog on another site and when I tried to transfer over the information I somehow managed to lose all the photos and all the information I had posted. In a fit of rage I refused to start the blog again and have been disappointed in myself for not sharing some of the creations I have made since.
I like to hand make things for birthday parties and the like and I usually have some pretty good ideas. With 3 kids that is 3 parties a year and usually everything is hand made. That being said I have made invitations that range from very complicated to things that are simple.
I also make things for the children's teachers and class activities and decided that I would finally get out of my slump and start sharing. I hope you all enjoy the posts from here on out. Thanks
